What do we do?
- Retreats - The retreat program consists of semiannual weekend retreats beginning Friday evening and running through Sunday afternoon at locations in the Washington, DC/Baltimore area. The retreats consist of motivational talks, small group discussions, spirit filled music, liturgy and quiet time for reflection. The program also holds occasional days of reflection.
- Social Programs - The HEC community comes together for social events such as a picnic and a dinner dance during the year.
What do we offer?
- Attendant Care - Personal assistance in activities of daily living are provided to physically disabled individuals while on retreat by able-bodied individuals attending the retreats. The able-bodied individuals providing care do not have specialized training. If specialized care is required, physically disabled individuals are encouraged to bring a caregiver with them.
- Transportation - Transportation to the HEC events is offered to individuals who need transportation.
- Nursing - At least one registered nurse is present at each retreat in case of emergencies.
- Financial Assistance - The cost of retreats and social events varies. Scholarships are available to attend events. No one is turned away for a lack of money.
What do we need?
METRO HEC depends upon the participation of able-bodied individuals to provide assistance to disabled individuals during the weekend retreats. Able-bodied participants will:- Receive more than they give
- Be provided the help needed to care for a physically disabled individual
- Have a new perspective on life
- Probably be asking when can I do this again!
